God, Your Family, and the Green Bay Packers

There are many quotes attributed to Vince that the coach became famous for having said: "Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing." (lots of confusion about that one, by the way, and frequently taken out of context.) There are several others that I enjoy and appreciate, but thought with it being a Sunday game-day again, it would be good to focus on what he told his team should be their priority list for life. He told his team they would be successful if they would focus on three things and three things only. "Your God, your family, and the Green Bay Packers." High School Days - Naked and Afraid

Sophomore Year 1978-79 The picture isn't from "my" high school days - but at that time I wouldn't have known what the world wide web, internet, or blogging meant either. Some 10 years before starting high school, we were on a trip (to Nebraska, I think) and while staying at a motel I fell or tried to get from the kiddie pool into the big pool. My recollection is going down through the water until my Dad grabbed my hand and brought me to the surface. A life-long fear of the water resulted. Attending St. Paul was no reason to fear it, but I knew going to high school meant I had to swim. The spring prior to going to J. A. Craig, I spent quite a number of weeks at the YMCA learning how to swim. The lessons seemed to go pretty well. In Craig's Physical Education classes, there were between 60 and 90 students - either boys or girls, divided into three sub-groups based on how well you could swim. Happy Anniversary

Our wedding party, Jan 26, 1985. C Scholl photo 39 years ago tomorrow we were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Des Moines, Iowa. Two conclusions: * Next year will be 40 years and * We are getting old My sister was the flower girl. She was nine then, I think she's somewhere in her mid-twenties now. My bride looks the same. The face I see in the mirror every morning looks the same, to me anyway. I thought about our 15th anniversary the day we married, amazed that it would come in 2000. We celebrated our 23rd by the bay. 1/25/08 Our twelfth is the easiest to remember because that's the day the Packers won Super Bowl XXXI. We spent our 23rd in San Fransisco, enjoying the sights and riding trolley cars. We celebrate every year, usually by going out for dinner, other times taking weekend trips.
