My Week that Was - December 17

A new 2023 day planner. 12 14 22 dwm
The week started in Des Moines, Iowa where we attended Jenifer's funeral, our friend and wife of Kevin.

Kevin and I met while I was an intern with KWWL-TV in the bureau covering the State Capitol.  He worked in the same building as the bureau where he was on the air for KCBC - AM radio.

The reporter I was interning with, Larry, quickly introduced me to high-level humor as we deployed various tools, including power drills, to make the guy talking into the microphone lose his composure.

From that beginning we became better acquainted.  He and his wife hosted a 'Cinema Cellar' once a month where I was introduced to foreign films, classics, and Alfred Hitchcock.

Kevin and Jenifer were great hosts who became good friends.  My wife told me that when she came to Cinema Cellar the first time it was to get their approval.  I don't know if that's accurate but it is plausible.

Time and careers widened the gap between us that we bridged with holiday cards and social media when that came along.  We hadn't gotten together in person for years when we got the tragic news of her passing.

The service was beautiful.  We were able to speak to Kevin and met his son (like ours, grown and out of the house).  The years since we last talked melted away.  The loss broke our hearts that getting together helped heal.

Monday was busy at work and afterwards when I stopped at the furniture store to set up a delivery before Christmas and sent off a package from the Post Office.  Tuesday I concentrated on wrapping up weekly calls so I could begin year-end calls.

Another heavy, wet snow. 12/15/22
The goal is to reach as many donors as possible, thanking them for their support; recognizing increases in giving; and let donors know if they are close to a donor society.

Wednesday night the area received another round of heavy, wet snow.  There might have been five or six inches on the ground Thursday morning, however, the snow was so wet it quickly compacted.  The snow did create a beautiful scene flocking branches perfectly with fresh snow.

It's not officially winter and Madison is ahead of the normal amount of snowfall.  That's a good thing as our area needs moisture.  I'm happy to see it because it means we should have a white Christmas.

It felt good to get through the last day of the week.  For most folks on campus the week's events evoked a variety of thoughts and feelings. Changes can be unsettling and bothersome but time eventually gets to where we can feel at home.

There isn't a time line for when we get there but the journey is underway.

You have seven shopping days until Christmas, have a great week!
