Iron Men and Women Ride through Verona

A few of the IRONMAN participants. 9/13/26 dwm
More than 2,500 athletes took part in the IRONMAN Wisconsin over the weekend.

There are two events featuring a swim, bike race, and foot race - the first is 70 miles while the second is 140.

Verona has been part of the 140-mile IRONMAN event as the bike portion of the race loops through America's Hometown as cyclists go 112 miles after swimming 2.4 miles and before a 26.2 mile run.

Sadly, a participant in the Half-Ironman from Colorado died during the swim. He's the third person to die since 2019.

I've ridden more than 112 miles several times on organized rides but they aren't designed to be competitive.

I didn't swim two miles or plan to run a marathon when I get off the bike. My sister has done this quite a few times, and I applaud her and anyone willing to take on something like this and endure the training required to accomplish it.

If there is a relay version of the IRONMAN or other triathlon, I'd be interested in the two-wheel section of the race. Until then, it's fun seeing these hard-working and passionate athletes riding the streets I enjoy the rest of the year.
