My Week that Was - November 2

A Fall day. 10/25/24 dwm
The Badger football team and their fans were excited for their homecoming opponent in Camp Randall last Saturday night. They came in with a 3 - 1 record in conference, 5 - 3 overall but riding a three game winning streak.

The Badgers played with the Penn State Nittany Lions for most of a half, but in the fourth quarter, the 3rd ranked Lions asserted their dominance and took home a victory.

My Fearless Forecast predicted the Badgers would be 4 - 1 in the conference and 6 - 2 for the season. It doesn't get easier with a road game in Iowa, home for the (currently) top team in the country, Oregon, then a road game in Nebraska before finishing at home with the Golden Gophers.

It's a great end to the season if they win 3 of the 4, respectable if they split four games. We'll see what happens.

The Packers flew into Jacksonville to find a host of Packer fans on-hand to watch them play the Jaguars. Quarterback Jordan Love left with an injury early in the second half but the Pack managed to win thanks to a second-straight game-winning field goal. I predicted Green Bay would lose in Jacksonville, but I did predict their record correctly after 8 games. The win completes a sweep of the AFC South: Indianapolis, Tennessee, Houston, and Jacksonville. There are 9 games left.

I didn't ride this weekend, finishing my bike season Friday, October 25, so that meant going out for breakfast Saturday morning, we went to Crema Cafe where I enjoyed a blueberry pancake.

When it comes to turkeys, they aren't generally known for their smarts. I saw something Monday that made me re-think that assumption. As I was driving south on American Parkway, a turkey was running toward the street and crossed it perfectly, avoiding vehicles from either direction. From my vantage point, it looked like the bird knew exactly how to cross the busy street.

More progress in the Agility Park. 11/1/24 dwm
Tuesday and Wednesday were warm enough I opened the office window. I heard the call of Sandhill Cranes as they flew above our area of Madison. Wednesday afternoon I heard the sound of something moving through the leaves, when I looked out, five turkeys were strolling past.

Baseball season is over with the Dodgers coming from behind to beat the Yankees in game 5 and win the World Series. Los Angeles deserves the trophy but the fact is they've underachieved for more than a decade. They qualified for the play-offs every year since 2013 and only won two championships.

Progress on the Agility Park reached a big moment Friday as the ground was raked and prepared for seeding. That doesn't sound significant, but that area was the route Bobcat tractors used to carry materials in and out of the construction site. There are more things to do but it's getting close. It's exciting.

The week was quite busy. I had a late start on the year-end appeal and resumed working on letters going out to corporate partners and potential partners. The grants are sorted and ready for consideration. I started four days on the west campus by spending an hour signing, stuffing, and sealing thank you letters then ended the week spending another 45-minutes preparing thank you letters for delivery. It's a good week when you need to spend that much time saying thank you!

I'm ready for the weekend. Thanks for reading!
