Ohio Covered Bridges - Doyle

The Doyle Road Covered Bridge is the last Ashtabula County bridge we visited in the fall of 2025.

Depending on when you read this, it's possible the county has added on to the 19 that stood when we were there; after all, seven were built since 1993.

The Doyle bridge is the first on the South & Western Tour, but we created our own route and visited the other five on the South & Western when we drove north into Ashtabula County October 5.

The Doyle crosses Mill Creek, which joins the Grand River on its way to Lake Erie. I thought the creek was named because grain or saw mills might have lined its banks, but according to the bridge's Wikipedia page, it was the name of Europeans who settled into the area before others joined them.

Built in 1868, it was renovated in 1987 when a laminated arch was added to strengthen the bridge.

The beauty of the bridge is in the sweep Doyle road takes from the east side of the creek to cross the bridge then curve north.
