The Netcher Covered Bridge was the second of seven modern, yet historic, covered bridges in Ashtabula County (see list below).
The county engineer, John Smolen Jr., was involved with each of the new bridges and is credited in the Netcher Bridge Wikipedia page as the builder of this one.
On the guide we picked up at the county Tourism office, the Netcher bridge is the first bridge for their suggested route to 13 bridges on the north and east sides of the Ashtabula County.
| The Netcher is considered "Neo-Victorian." dwm |
Both routes start in downtown Jefferson. The South & Western tour, shares 6 bridges over 68 miles; while the North & Eastern tour shows twice as many covered bridges in 69 miles.
If you stop at each bridge, this trip will take more time, but the longest distance between bridges is only 11.5 miles, most are less than five miles apart.
