Ohio Covered Bridges - Caine

Ashtabula County likes its covered bridges. The county in the northeast corner of Ohio also like building bridges. These are the most recent added to the county landscape:

 Smolen-Gulf Bridge 2008

 West Liberty 2011

 Riverview 2016

That doesn't include Harpersfield, which is an historic bridge reconstructed in 2024.

The first new, historic bridge is likely the Caine Bridge, built in 1986 to celebrate Ashtabula County's 175th anniversary.

The Caine catches your attention from more than a mile up the road when the sun glints off the front of the bridge and bright yellow sign urging traffic to slow and be careful for the clearance to cross.

The Caine is 124-feet long. 10/6/2025 dwm

It's location provided a lot of sight lines for pictures and the bridge was ready for it's close-up.

Another thing the Caine Bridge has in common with other recently built covered bridges is that it was also designed by John Smolen.
