| A Golden Nest. 3/7/2026 dwm |
When the clock moved past midnight into the wee hours of Saturday, March 7, the expectation of people paid to predict the weather was that much of south Wisconsin would experience the first thunderstorm of the year, and warned it could be severe.
It did rain, it was heavy at times with peals of thunder, but it wasn't severe. We did get a lot of rain, enough to think that if it had been below freezing, we might have seen more than six inches of snow.
By the time I was up and on the way to the gym, it was only a light rain as temperatures dropped throughout the day.
Interested in going to a new place for breakfast, we went to the recently opened Golden Nest on West University, a few miles west of the University of Wisconsin campus. The first one in the area opened several years back in Sun Prairie.

We arrived after 8 and got a seat right away. The place was already jumping with diners, and it appeared most of the booths and tables were filled with young families.
That's unusual for us to see, which may say something about the time we eat or the places we go.
The biggest difference between the two Golden Nest locations was that there wasn't a robotic server delivering meals.
We enjoyed our breakfast, my wife had eggs, sausage, and breakfast potatoes, while I enjoyed two fluffy buttermilk pancakes with chocolate chips.

| Snow Drop flowers. 3/9/26 dwm |
Monday was amazing. It was in the 40s overnight with a warm day forecast, so I left my jacket at home.
I didn't need it when I joined a small group of walkers take a turn around the campus. As we made the last one to the entrance, I saw a clump of white flowers.
Snow Drops are hardy perennials that do well in cold weather and are among the first to bloom. I'm not saying these are the first flowers blooming in the Madison area, just that they are the first flowers I've seen.
When I woke up Wednesday, my mouth felt different, like there was something between my gum and the inside of my mouth. But I couldn't feel anything. Then I remembered something hard in my mouth during dinner the night before. That's when I figured I chipped a tooth.
I called the dentist's office and they scheduled me at 2:15. The dentist said the chipped tooth, which was filled back when I was in high school, happened because of small cracks in the tooth. I return to his office in a few weeks to "build up the tooth" and get a temporary crown. The permanent one will be placed in late April.
After work Wednesday, I witnessed an accident. I was stopped waiting for the light to change at the intersection of Mineral Point and Junction Roads. The two lanes to my left were both left-turn only lanes. Those two lanes cross Junction Road then make a left-turn to go south on Junction.
I saw a small blue car pass me. The light was red, but the car didn't stop. I didn't see any brake lights. The driver may have been distracted because they didn't see the light or the cars crossing the intersection when they saw green. The first car slammed into the north-bound car, crashing with a thud. Smoke escaped from the car's hood and the air bags deployed. I saw the passenger in the car that caused the crash get out.
Friday wrapped up the week. It started with meeting a friend for breakfast. We had a good time catching up and swapping stories before it was time to get to work.
By the end of the day my desk was clean and ready for my next day in the office. I walked to the car listening to the end of the Wisconsin Badgers quarterfinal game in the B1G conference tournament against the University of Illinois. Wisconsin beat the Illini in overtime, advancing to the semi-finals against Michigan.
We celebrated with pizza Friday night at the Grumpy Troll in Mt Horeb then ended the evening watching Field of Dreams. I hope your dreams for next week come true, and thanks for reading.
