My Week that Was - March 11

Buttermilk pancakes w/chocolate chips. 3/4/23
This week started calmer than the week before.  After a morning workout, we tried a new place for breakfast in Sun Prairie, the Golden Nest pancakes & cafe.

It's one of two locations, the other is in Wauwatosa.

The restaurant is bright, welcoming, and warm.  There is a nice feel as you walk in.  The menu offers a variety of choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The pancakes are delicious with an airy fluffiness and texture.  It was a good thing I only ordered two because I don't think I could have finished three.

It appeared that the Golden Nest had plenty of wait staff  while we were there and most of the orders were carried out by staff.  Every so often though, a delivery system which looked like a giant Roomba, came out of the kitchen then avoided people and tables before stopping in front of the table that made the order.

Auto-servers.
Most of the time a server was nearby to transfer plates to the table.  The one time there wasn't someone nearby, the hungry guests served themselves.  In an era where nearly every business is short-handed, there may be more situations where automation gets the job done while letting people concentrate on jobs which require a personal touch.

The work week was quite busy.  My boss, the director of the Foundation is taking a new position.  I've been named interim executive director, a title I hope to earn permanently.  Over the past few weeks I started getting familiar with parts of the job that weren't my responsibility.  It requires a larger point of view, yet with an attention to detail.

I enjoy what I do, and look forward to many more years serving the people who live at Oakwood.  It's a great place to be and a great place to work.

This past Monday, Oakwood Village changed its mask policy making them optional for everyone, including employees.  It's the first time in nearly 3 years we've not had to wear masks in the common areas of campus.  People comfortable wearing masks are welcome to do so.  The first three days of the week I reached for a mask any time I was about to leave the office.

We've had snow nearly every week in 2023. dwm
There were a few weeks in the early summer of 2021 when the mask mandate was lifted but it lasted less
than a month when a surge of Covid cases meant we had to wear masks again.  I hope this time, we can live and work mask free.

While spring is just over a week away, it seems like winter is doing all it can to stick around.  Thursday night into Friday morning we received around five inches of heavy, wet snow.  Near the end of our driveway, it felt like there were 2 inches of water below 3 inches of snow.

The bright side is it doesn't take much for the streets and sidewalks to clear off after the snow but it will be nice when we put the regular snowfalls in our rear-view mirror.  At our current rate, we might be close to April before that happens.

It was a hectic week, it will be interesting to see what this next week brings, be careful out there!
