April is National BLT sandwich month.
While toast, bacon, lettuce, and tomatoes have been around a long time, the first mention of a BLT sandwich was in 1903 recorded by Dr. Evan Mee in the Good Housekeeping Everyday Cookbook.
The first reference to it by it's initials began in 1941.
I'm a fan of grilled cheese sandwiches, check the link, but it depends on who makes it and how they do it. I'll eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches anytime and there is very little you can do to ruin one, unless you're using chunky peanut butter.
When it comes to a lighter lunch at a restaurant, my go-to is bacon, lettuce, and tomato on toast with mayonnaise. It's good just like that, it doesn't need avocado or turkey to dress it up. I know it doesn't change the taste, but I prefer the sandwich cut on a diagonal (top corner to bottom).
It surprises me that BLT's month is April because for me, bacon, lettuce, and tomato is a summer sandwich when you can use a fresh tomato, that takes it to another level. Whenever you eat one, I hope you enjoy it!
