My Week that Was - February 1

Last winter. 1/12/24 dwm
The week began celebrating our 40th anniversary. You can read the recap which ran Tuesday if you missed it. Sunday was the actual day we reached 40, so we are now official.

After church, we picked up lunch on the way home because it was a day to relax and do as little as possible. Other than getting trash to the curb, most of the day was watching TV - the Badgers rolled to a nice win over Nebraska at home and my picks for the Super Bowl fell apart.

The NFL is making a big deal about the Kansas City Chiefs possibly being the first three-peat champion if they win Super Bowl 59. It's as if a league with 100 years of history doesn't count the first 40. The NFL crowned champions before the first AFL - NFL Championship game saw Green Bay beat Kansas City. That is considered Super Bowl 1, even though it wasn't called by that name at the time.

The year before "Super Bowl 1," the Packers beat the Cleveland Browns for NFL title for the 1965 season, before they won everything in 1966 and 1967. Coach Lombardi retired, the Packers didn't win again till 1996.

It wasn't the first time Green Bay won three titles. Coach Curly Lambeau earned titles in 1929, 1930, and 1931. The two triple victories are six of the Packers 13 NFL championships, more than any team in the league. It's too bad most of the county won't hear their story.

The final week of January was busy. We got the cover letter and mailing envelopes back from the printer early Tuesday morning. Thankfully, our administrative assistant was in the office; the two of us worked together to collate, fold, stuff, seal, and sort the documents so they would either be delivered or in the mail by Thursday.

Wednesday was the year's first pizza party. It went well, with 22 people from 19 households. In addition to the party, there were pictures to take, and three donor visits. We were able to finish getting updated credit card information so the new database can start processing automatic monthly gifts.

At home, we record TV digitally so we can watch when we're ready. Last Monday I taped "Ladies and Gentlemen, S N L 50 Years of Music." If you haven't watched it, you should. The first 10 minutes is incredible as it includes various clips and different songs seemingly melting from one into another. I think it's the most amazing job of mixing and editing ever.

The weird winter continues, within the last two weeks there was more snow in Alabama and Mississippi than south Wisconsin. It's February - there isn't much time for winter to happen. It could. We could get 15 inches next week, but it doesn't feel like it.

I'm missing winter. We moved back to Wisconsin because we wanted to see snow. There's an old saying that warns us to 'be careful what you wish for,' so if we get a foot of snow one of these days, I guess it's on me.

I hope you have a great week, thanks for reading.
