Check back to my forecast published Sept. 10, 2023. I was surprised to see a 10 - 7 record and play-off berth prediction. That's one more win that what the team achieved (ending 9 - 8) but surprisingly close.
A strong finish playing their best ball did the trick. We were helped by teams under-performing and a group of receivers and a quarterback that wildly exceeded them.
Against Chicago, the Bears scored first but were held to a field goal by a Green Bay defense that had struggled much of the year. The Bears only scored on three field goals. The Pack got two touchdown passes from Jordan Love to Dontayvion Wicks, missed one field goal and made the other. The lead never felt 'safe,' but the box score shows a dominating win for Green Bay.
I'm excited to see my team play next weekend. Who knows what happens? This young squad has no pressure from expectations, while the Cowboys, who haven't won a Super Bowl since the early 1990s, has reliably disappointed their fan base for years. Green Bay's two Super Bowl wins in 1997 and 2011 (at the end of the '96 and '10 seasons) disappointed Packer fans who expected more Super Bowl victories.
This is a fun team to watch, especially when the defense is ready to play. I expect a good game. It won't surprise me to see this plucky team advance to the Divisional Round.
