| My Capitol & back ride. 9/5/22 |
Three miles an hour. It's not how fast I was going, it's the difference between grinding to maintain speed and feeling like you're comfortably cruising.
Monday I went out on the trusty ten-speed for a quick morning ride. It was my first ride since day two of the Ride Across Wisconsin, it felt good to be back on a bike.
Just two miles into the ride I felt a breeze in my face and noticed it was tough to get into the rhythm I like.
I found it a while later when the wind died and the path was going slightly downhill. Instantly I was doing 16 with an easy pedal stroke compared to how it felt going 13.
Lots of things were on my to-do list Monday, so I kept the trip relatively short. Instead of riding 10 miles to the University of Wisconsin Field House, a couple blocks farther where I headed up West Washington for a loop around Capitol Square.
You don't find as much traffic on downtown streets early on holidays which is very nice. Crews were taking down port-a-pots and restoring streets to their normal traffic pattern. At 8 am there was only occasional traffic allowing me to enjoy circling the statehouse.
The ride home was quicker with a tailwind, making that 3 miles per hour a constant for the trip home, adding another 23 miles to this year's odometer.
