Biking to Bucky, Part 16

Animals are all over Bucky, D.V.M.

One downtown Bucky is representing a college.  The other three in this look at Bucky on Parade offer different looks at campus life.

Today's Bucky on Parade: 17, 34, 37, and 44.

In case you are wondering about the numbers - the number is  assigned to each statue in the location map at buckyonparade.com

Animals Need Bucky too - #17 - Artist Kathy King

Bucky may not wear a cape, but this guy is wearing his role as a veterinarian trained in the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine.

His lab coat is covered with at least 17 different species under his care.  He looks great in front of the Capitol at 1 S. Pinckney.

Llama, Chimp, Parrot,
and Giraffe join others on
the back. 6/29/18 (dwm)
Other states (Indiana, Michigan, and Iowa for example) have two universities and divide up fields of study.  It is why Purdue, Michigan State, and Iowa State offer agricultural programs while Indiana, Michigan, and Iowa do not.

Students at the U.W. Vet school support the agricultural program and animals living at the Henry Vilas Zoo.

The artist writes that many of the animals on Bucky are actual pets.  I'm guessing that does not include the Giraffe, Chimpanzee, or Toucan.

This Bucky is beautiful.  Animal lovers will likely seek this one out for several pictures.

#GameDayBucky - #34 - Artists Rose Malm and Austin Fath

All these Buckys can become confusing.  This guy, for instance.  He is wearing a Jump Around t-shirt.  I'm sure the very same shirt is sold at the University Book Store on State Street where he is standing.

However, "Jump Around Bucky" is somewhere else - the Hilldale Shopping Center.  You met him in part 2 of this series on June 11.

Appropriate game day attire includes snazzy red and white overalls.  I bet there are Oshkosh, by Gosh.

We Are Bucky - #37 - Artist Kim Marie

Students moving into Smith Hall next month are sure to notice and take selfies with this Badger.

The artist uses program covers, ticket stubs, newspaper headlines, and fan photos printed on special paper and decoupaged on Bucky.

Fan photos adore and adorn Bucky.

The one and only time I decoupaged was in Cub Scouts.  This guy at 35 North Park Street looks better than any of my art.

While Jump Around Bucky also features fan photos; these snapshots comprise a living album of the lives intertwined in the love many have for the University, their time on campus, and of course, Bucky.

Sunset - #44 - Artists Allyson Casey & Megan Breene

Union Terrace.  6/16/18

While there are many important spots on campus, if you force most folks to name their very favorite spot, I bet many will choose the Memorial Union Terrace.

The Union is a gathering place for students, professors, and members of the community.  It hosts entertainment inside year-round and outside depending on the season.

Lake Mendota attracts many to study or relax near the water.

Two weeks ago, our office team spent an afternoon
at the Memorial Union Terrace to recharge our batteries and build team rapport.

It was the perfect spot.  Even when light rain arrived, we ducked for cover under the entertainment stage roof to continue talking and enjoying the food, drink, and Babcock Ice Cream crafted on campus a few blocks away.

The colors on Bucky represent the transition from day to darkness as bright yellow gives way to orange, deep red, purple, and midnight blue.

It captures the beauty of the Terrace wonderfully.

Don't miss out on the Bucky Parade - see what you missed here.
