Bridges of Indiana's Counties - #10 - Fayette Co. - Longwood

Writing my way through the "Bridges of Indiana's Counties," some questions occur to me:
  • Jefferson, Adams, Hancock all signed the Declaration of Independence, but how many other names do I recognize?
  • Further back in history - Peter, Andrew, James, and John are all well-known disciples, but only Biblical scholars could probably recite the original 12 and who joined the group as a new number 12. (Matthias)
So, if truly important members of history can be in the pages of history... why can't a simple bridge?

The Longwood Covered Bridge is still in the community where it was built, Connorsville, Indiana.  But in 1984 it was moved to a Roberts Park where it stands as a testament to earlier days.

If you want to visit all 91 covered bridges, you need to see it.

In the annals of Fayette County history, it may merit a few paragraphs or a page - but there's no electronic evidence of it online.

We know the builder, when it was built, and it's style.  It still stands but with an empty resume after 134 years of watching history pass through its doors.

Did anyone famous steer their horse and buggy between its walls?

Or were these the mostly nameless and faceless Hoosiers?  The men and women who carved a living from the soil, raising families, and dedicated to giving the next generation a better life than theirs?

Besides the bridge, I know Connorsville because of its high school speech team and their coach.  They were a formidable and talented crew, the kind of students you'd expect from a quiet community with a strong, "get it done and don't worry about the credit" ethic.
