Kids, young and old, are getting their exhibits ready for the county fair next week.  What a great time of the year for 4-H kids from all over to show off what they've learned and done this year.

Chapter 18 - Oscar's Owie and Big Cash
Friend Oscar's bike ride ran into an unexpected obstacle that creates opportunity in the midst of pain.

Chapter 19 - Close, but No Cigar
We had a great family trip to the Wisconsin State Fair to watch Harmon show his Holstein calf - Vince was wrong about this competition - this time, winning wasn't the only thing.

Chapter 20  Fish Out of Water
I had to make the trip in from the country to the big city on the shore of Lake Michigan.  I don't understand how people manage to live with neighbors so close to them all the time.

Chapter 21  Dinner Guest
It took a while to make it happen, but our EMT hero and family friend Jacob comes to dinner.

Chapter 22 Unexpected Impact
The accident in the spring changed lots of lives, including the EMT

Evening is a special time of day on the farm; work winds down to recover before starting again at sunrise.

Sitting down with the Johnson family to see how the treatment is going and the crops growing and the next step on the community's effort to help.

Chapter 25 Leaving the Nest
The college kids are home for a few more weeks before heading back to school.  Those of us here on the farm want them to come back as the next generation, but it's hard to say whether that will happen.

Chapter 26  How Big is That?
In the fall, the neighbors in the valley stage a contest to see who can grow the largest pumpkin.  This year might just be my year.

Chapter 27  Day at the Dairy Expo
Scotty took a day to see the World Dairy Expo over in Madison - it's quite a show and offer opportunities for guys ready to consider a risk.

Chapter 28  Late Starts
The sun gets up later, and so do I.  Time for the younger folks to milk the cows and get the tractors warmed up before I'm ready to hit the fields.  

Chapter 29  Harvest Time
My turn in the combine; which gives me a lot of time to think about the ways technology has made us adapt, and how we've adapted to technology.

Chapter 30 Scotty's Turn
Scotty takes the lead in getting the community back together to help the Johnson family, and Rich has a plan for everyone to get ahead.

Chapter 31 - Family Ties
The whole family gets involved to help the Johnson family and wrap up the harvest for our friends and neighbors.

Chapter 32 Don't Ask for Whom the Bell tolls
The valley receives the difficult news that John is not going to make it - time for planning and to celebrate time left.

Chapter 33  A Time for Everything       
John and Bob meet me at the local coffee shop to discuss the future and why there seems to be a time for everything.

Chapter 34  Putting the Deere(and Eagles) to Bed
It's the end of a long season, so the tractor is put to bed and the Johnsons travel to Lambeau Field.

Chapter 35 (the last chapter)  Thanksgiving
The family and most of our friends from around the community squeeze into the old farmhouse for a large Thanksgiving dinner celebration and hear a surprise announcement that could change the town.
