| Picking pumpkins in rural Fitchburg. 10/17/2026 dwm |
The week started in a pumpkin patch at a nearby apple orchard where I helped my wife with an event for her family of clients. My job was to take pictures.
After her event we took a drive into the southwest corner of Wisconsin to look at leaves and visit a large orchard outside Richland Center. It was so busy, it looked like a Madison grocery store on Saturday morning.
That evening, the Wisconsin Badgers lost its second game to UCLA which is having a much better season than any of the experts predicted. The Badgers get another chance at taking on a name-brand school tonight when the University of Southern California plays the Badgers in Camp Randall.
Green Bay won its third game in a row when Dallas came to Lambeau Field on Sunday night. The Cowboys and Packers have played 13 times starting in 2009 and Green Bay has won 11, lost 1, and tied 1. The Packers have looked much better over the last three games, I'm curious to see what happens when they play the Detroit Lions this weekend. So far, Green Bay beat Chicago and lost to Minnesota, if they want to win the division they need to get a win in the Motor City.
It's been a fun week in Wisconsin as even the most casual fans are excited to jump on the bandwagon and cheer the Brewers all the way to a World Series trophy. Jacob Misiorowski gets the ball for the first game at home. Miz has been terrific all-season and is the odd-son favorite to win the Cy Young Award as the best pitcher in the National League.
He pitched in the play-offs last season and showed he has the mettle for high-pressure situations. After two gutty performances in the National League Division and Championship Series were less than his best, I expect him to rebound after more than a week resting and recovering; a strong performance Friday night will go a long way to winning the series.
There was a lot of excitement at work Friday as the topic of nearly every conversation was the night's World Series game 1 with Tampa playing the Brewers in American Family Field in Milwaukee. As the hours ticked down to first pitch there were stories online and on the air recalling the Brewer team that played in the 1982 Series and lost but was still given a parade when they came home.
Most experts think the Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays are mirror-images of each other and thought games would be close. The experts were right in game one. The Brewers got off to a good start with a two-nothing lead early in the game behind the Miz. The Crew added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh and they needed it.
In the bottom of the ninth, Trevor Megill, our closer gave up a run when we failed to complete a double-play to end the game. That brought another Tampa hitter to the plate but this time Megill struck him out to end the game and give Milwaukee a 1 game lead in the World Series. Go Brewers!
