National Apple Dumpling Day

When I saw today was National Apple Dumpling, it made me think of my first half-marathon, one of the Apple Dumpling races in the Elroy Tunnel Half-Marathon. In addition to being my first half-marathon, it was among the first blogs I ever posted. It was posted September 8, 2012. The blog started July 21, 2012.

At the end of the run, every runner was handed a a bowl with a deep-fried apple dumpling topped with cream. I described it later that day, "Oh, it was awesome! Soft and flavorful apple inside a baked crust and topped with real whipping cream. Oh yeah, that was worth it."

I'm not sure if I've had another apple dumpling since then, but I'd certainly entertain the idea of another one.

The last couple days has been cooler than usual for mid-September but it sure brings comfort foods to mind, and you probably can't describe comfort foods without apple dumplings on the menu.

The good news is you don't have to run 13.1 miles to get an apple dumpling but it might make it taste even better!
