Brewers Win 100!

The Brewers had clinched home-field for the play-offs and secured win 100 the day before coming home to Milwaukee to wrap up the season.

 

My son and I arranged tickets for Friday night's game months ago, expecting to see the Brewers prepare for the post-season. 

 

Frequently when a team reaches a milestone, it's not uncommon for the team to exhale and lose the next game.

 

That's not what the 2026 version of the Milwaukee Brewers did; they came to work like every other day this season, looking for a victory.

 After Friday's game, I heard on the post-game radio show that the sell-out crowd was the second-largest this year. St. Louis Cardinal fans travel well, but their team is down this year, so I didn't see many red birds in the crowd.

 

 The tickets I chose were Terrace Reserved seats on the fourth level. We've sat in several areas of the top seats but never this close to Bernie Brewer. 

 

 Our seats meant we saw a lot of the team's mascot but we couldn't see anything in center or right fields. We didn't even have a video board available.

We saw the Brewers establish a lead, lose it, and then do what they've done 39 times this season, battling back from a deficit to secure another win. 

 

The Brewers wrap up the season today (Sept. 27, 2026) then get five days to get ready to play one of the National League teams from the Wildcard round in the Divisional Series.

 

This Brewers team has better pitching; a strong line-up that can generate crucial hits; and a lunch-pail approach of regular improvement. Milwaukee had the best record in baseball last year and lost in the National League Championship Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers. While it will be difficult, I believe the Brewers can win it all.

 The biggest reason I have faith in the Brew Crew is their manager, Pat Murphy.

 

 A long-time manager in college baseball, he served as Craig Counsel's bench coach when Counsel became Milwaukee's manager. When Counsel left to lead the rival Cubs in Chicago, Murphy was named manager.

 

 While an old-school manager, he understands when it's time to lay down the law and when to back-off. One of the first things he announced after becoming Milwaukee's manager was that the team would play to win every game.

Over 162 games, you're going to lose, in this magical season, the Brewers have lost 59 times (the fewest
losses in the majors) but never lost more than six games in a row. In fact, after that tough stretch in April losing to Boston and Toronto, they never lost more than three games in a row! 

 

Milwaukee has the most celebrated pitcher in the big leagues in Jacob Misiorowski  who has thrown more than 1,700 pitches clocked at 100 miles an hour or more. His fastest pitch was 104.5 mph but his control allows him to get guys out without a flaming fastball.

 

The Miz gets the headlines, by Logan Henderson has been just as reliable and Robert Gasser has improved throughout the season. Jackson Chourio continues to develop into the All-Star player he seems destined to be, and two rookies, Cooper Pratt and Louis Lara, showed that they are more than their big contract as they have played well in the field and at the plate. 

 

Second baseman Brice Turang quietly became one of the best players in the league and William Contreras has done a great job behind the plate while also getting crucial hits. 

 

I also want to recognize Christian Yelich, who joined the Brewers before the 2018 season and has been part of the Brewers longest run of success. He was named team captain before Saturday night's game, noting his leadership and having the pulse of the team on his fingertips. This season hasn't been his best, but he's had some clutch hits and behind the scenes is the clear leader of the Brewers. 

 

By the way, Milwaukee won Saturday night, and then again Sunday afternoon, making them 103 - 59.
