Want Fries With That?

 The second Friday of every July is National French Fry Day. It's time to celebrate with whatever style of fry you like: regular, waffle, crinkle-cut, thin, thick, steak-cut, wedge, or curly.
 
 This is your reminder that if you like French fries, tomorrow is your day - you may find discounts or freebies when it comes to your starchy side.
 
 Your favorite fry doesn't have to be from a restaurant, you might like Ore-Ida, which processes spuds in Oregon (Ore) and Idaho (Ida) into fries and tater tots.
 
 McDonald's has earned a lot of praise for their fries, maybe that's why we usually answer 'yes' to the question in the blog's title? The McDonald's I frequent does an excellent job serving fresh and hot fries with my McValue meal.

Statistics indicate Americans eat 30 pounds of fries per person every year! The fry was first recognized in the 1700s, but I'm guessing its popularity on the menu and the plate came more in the 20th and 21st centuries.
 
In putting this post together I was surprised to see an early Presidents was a fan. Thomas Jefferson, in 1802 was credited with serving potatoes in the "French manner" at a White House dinner. 

According to the information at NationalToday, the Belgians take credit for the invention of the fry. It was the French who cut potatoes different ways then frying them and selling form push carts on the street.
