My Week that Was - May 16

The week started with a nice day for a ride. You can read about it in last Sunday's blog (May 10, 2026)

After the ride, I did some work around the house and caught up with some shows recorded earlier in the week.

The Brewers have played well over the last 10 to 14 days. They swept the New York Yankees over the weekend, finishing with two walk-offs (winning on the last play of the game).

In the Mother's Day game, Brice Turang (photo left) hit a home run to win it. He wears #2, as did Bill Hall, a Brewer infielder who was the last Brewer to hit a walk-off home run on Mother's Day!

Monday and Tuesday were busy with a variety of projects and new deadlines. Tuesday was highlighted with residents invited to paint birds, bugs, and butterflies that the professional artists will add to a mural that will literally wrap around a large cement pillar.

The finishing touches on the mural for Peggy Lindberg's Agility Park should be finished next week.

This project started in January. While I've seen renderings and photos of the artist's work, I didn't realize how big the framed art would be - they really make an impression.

If you read Thursday's blog about the Ascension, you may be wondering about the ice cream, scroll down the page to see the picture.

Also in the limelight Thursday, the schedule reveal for every team in the National Football League, including the Green Bay Packers.

The teams the Packers would play have been known since the season ended. The schedule revealed when the games will be played and in what order.

Green Bay is on the road for three of the first four games but gets to play in Lambeau Field for four of the last three. Playing the Bills, Dolphins, Texans, and Lions at home should certainly give the Pack home-field advantage.

It's too early to know which teams will be good and which ones will struggle. At this point, I have week ten circled when Green Bay hosts the Minnesota Vikings, because I expect to be in the stadium.

After church I stopped at Dairy Queen for a medium twist cone. The young woman behind the counter seemed nervous handing it off because it was listing badly.

It looks worse than it was, I finished the cone without a drop of soft-serve landing on my shirt or pants. Ah, memories.

Friday we had the first of two anniversary celebrations for Oakwood's Center for the Arts and Education. The Chapel-Auditorium, as it was originally known, was dedicated May 16, 1976, 50 years ago today.

As part of the Oakwood Foundation, it's been an honor to work with donors who love that space and generously supported refurbishing the space and making sure the room's technology is up to date.

There was an afternoon open house Friday, with a celebration tonight, culminated with a concert by the Oakwood Chamber Players.

I hope your week was worth celebrating; thanks for reading!
