May 12 is the day for a poem
That is really very well-knowen
Words aren't worth a lot
When they're said on the spot
And those I will say I will ow-en.

If you like limericks, this is the day to thank Edward Lear, an English poet known for his nonsense-style.

Lear may have made limericks popular, but according to the information on Nationaltoday.com, they started in the 18th century. The name of the poem is disputed, but most people say it came out of Limerick, Ireland.

Since Mr. Lear liked using made-up words, I took the liberty in the version at the top. In looking at various compilations of words and images, I found what I'd guess is the most famous clean limerick of all-time (upper right).

I asked ChatGPT for a limerick with the words blog and Pointdexter in it, and here's what AI produced:

There once was a blogger named Poindexter,
Whose posts kept getting much stranger and dexter.
On his wildly read blog,
He reviewed every fog,
And claimed mist was the next big connector.

Here's one more from me:

I like to take rides on my bike,
They are so much more fun than are hikes.
One could eat a carrot
If I did, I'd regret it.
As it might mean I'd get in more fights.
