Ohio Covered Bridges - South Denmark

The South Denmark bridge outside Jefferson in Ashtabula County hasn't provided a crossing for traffic in 50 years.

If you pull into the roadside park, you can drive across the bridge after enjoying the quiet spaces on either side of the bridge.

The county's covered bridge guide says the South Denmark Road bridge was built in 1890, but online I found multiple sources indicating the 100-foot bridge was constructed in 1895.

It's one of four bridges around the community of Jefferson, which is only a few miles south of Ashtabula.

South Denmark Road was quiet when we stopped in early October, which allowed me to use the new bridge, maybe 20-feet north, to frame the original (above).
