Celebrate the Spring Equinox

Winter went out like a lion earlier this week as a blizzard dumped upwards of two-feet of snow across most of north Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Here in Madison, just four days later, we saw spring show its resilience as the sun quickly began its work a short time after the weather advisories lifted. 

Today, the first day of spring, feels like spring, even surrounded by melting piles of snow as temperatures reach into the 60s.

The first day of spring does not mean the end of snow, just the end of winter. It will still get cold over the next 4 to 6 weeks, but it won't last long and the clouds of winter may drop some flakes but they won't last. But the most spring-like thing about the first day of spring is that we now see the sun longer than night.

After several long dark months in the northern part of the globe, that's welcomed more than anything else.

Sun and rain

Hot and cold.

Mud and umbrellas

Clouds bring rain

Rain brings flowers.

 

The sun stays out to play

Not going to bed

Until late in the day.  

 

Darkness steps back

Out of the light

It will return in the fall, so

Enjoy the daylight!
