Ohio Covered Briges - Root

The Root bridge is less than four miles from the Graham bridge on Caine road.

It was built in 1868 over the west branch of the Ashtabula River

There isn't much information online about the Root bridge. It's linked to Herbert Root, who married a woman, Frances Whitlam. She became superintendent of roads early in Ashtabula County history.

The bridge was built in 1868, then renovated over 1982 - 83 when the bridge was elevated by 18-inches and a new center pier was installed.

I like the way the bridge looks - there is a utilitarian look to it that's practical in farm country.

It's a sturdy bridge that originally was a 112-foot single span before it was reinforced with a center pier in 1983.
