Saturday morning I headed to Sauk City and Prairie du Sac hoping to photograph bald eagles.
You can read and see more about that tomorrow.
After an hour shooting at three locations, I decided to find a shop that could replace a bulb in my passenger-side headlamp.
I tried the O'Reilley Auto Parts store. There was a high school student at the front counter who helped me find a bulb.
After ringing me up, he came out to install the light. It took a few minutes, but he was quicker than it would have taken me to figure out. It was only two days earlier I noticed I was driving without a light, so I glad to get it fixed.
Sunday after church, I was on my own for lunch as my wife had an appointment with a potential client. A short stop at Milio's Sandwiches produced a roast beef sub sandwich and an afternoon working on blogs while watching college basketball.
The gym has finally cooled down. During the extreme cold, heat rose in the gym to the second floor/loft where treadmills and other machines are located. It was between 15 and 20 degrees warmer than the main floor. At its worse, it's difficult to run without stopping. Tuesday was better than Monday; I'm hoping we keep going that direction.
It's been a tough year for the Milwaukee Bucks. Their best player, and one of the best in the National Basketball Association, Giannis Antetokounmpo, has missed a lot of games because of injury. There have been rumors for a couple seasons now, that he would be traded from Milwaukee. Thursday was the in-season trade deadline, and it came and went with Giannis still a Buck.
I understand the clamor for him to go elsewhere for a second title, but I also get this simple concept, if the Bucks trade Giannis to another team, it doesn't guarantee a championship will come to Milwaukee. The last time we had a player like Giannis was in the mid-1970s when Kareem Abdul Jabbar was traded to the Lakers for 4 players. The Bucks eventually won a title, 50 years after Kareem led them to the first one, Giannis was the main reason Milwaukee won the championship in 2021.
If there is a way to rebuild around Giannis, who is a transcendent player and adopted Cheese-head loved by almost every Wisconsin sports fan. It doesn't make sense to trade a guy like him to another team and think the team trading for him will make Milwaukee better.
The Olympics began Friday with opening ceremonies while early rounds began in several sports. There are a lot of fun events: downhill skiing, bobsled, biathlon, skeleton, and curling. Curling is the only one that feels like something I could learn. I'd be unlikely to survive the others. When we lived near Eau Claire, Wisconsin from 1993 to 2005, we had an opportunity to watch ski jumping.
It was breath-taking to watch, even if they didn't fly as far as Olympians. The guts it took to slide down the jump, fly into the sky and land as far from the jump as possible was impressive. Especially the jumps by children not yet in their teens.
Over the course of a few weeks, we get the opportunity to witness amazing performances by athletes from the United States. Look out for Jordan Stolz, a 21-year old speed skater from Kewaskum, Wisconsin. He is expected to do well in several events ranging from sprints to much longer races. There are other cheese-head athletes in Italy - including several from the University of Wisconsin women's hockey team. It's impossible to watch all of the events, but take the time to watch the stories and the events unfold.
Citius, Altius, Fortius = Faster, Higher, Stronger
I hope you enjoy your week!
