My Week that Was - February 14

This week leads up to Valentine's Day, which has become a day to recognize team members, friends, and colleagues more than it is a day for romance.

It's nice it can be both. As I mentioned, our foundation team finished signing 300 cards that arrived in mailboxes yesterday or a couple days earlier.

I had a three-day weekend coming into this week, with the day after the Super Bowl being a third day off.

Saturday we started out at Prairie Cafe for breakfast, then there a few things to do around the house while watching several hours of the winter Olympics

The Badger basketball game was a priority to watch in the early afternoon as they played the Hoosiers in Indiana. Bucky mounted a come-back, but lost the lead late and ultimately lost in overtime.

Super Sunday we met the kids for a mid-day meal after church and before settling in to watch the Super Bowl pregame show and the game itself. The Super blog dropped Tuesday.

Monday was spent relaxing and working on the blog. It was a quiet day. I checked into the gym about the time I am usually going home, then breakfast at Stoughton's Koffee Kup Kafe.

Tuesday the Badgers had another chance at a win, playing in Champaign against Illinois. Wisconsin fell behind early but fought back, taking a late lead. The Illini tied the game before the finish but the Badgers earned a tough win in overtime, their second win on the road against a top-10 team. That kind of win will be a big help in getting Bucky back in the tournament.

This week I finished the latest video tour of lighthouses we've visited over the years. I count 149 lighthouses in six states (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania). Here's a look at all of them, including six on Wisconsin's big lake called Winnebago. The video runs 36 minutes. I recommend making it full-screen.

Thursday afternoon, as I was getting my stuff together for the trip home, a text comes in, asking me to grab a gallon of milk from Kwik Trip and a pizza from Pizza Hut. I placed our order, took note that it would be ready in 20-minutes, and was on my way. When I got to the store, I gave my name, then phone number. I didn't know where my order went, but it wasn't hot or ready to be picked up. Maybe the order went to another store?

Each table had a decoration. 2/13/26 dwm
The manager got the order going and it wasn't long before I was heading home with a heart-shaped
Valentine pizza. The next night, before meeting our new tax preparer, we ate at Arby's which had decorated the place for a romance.

We took advantage of a 2 for $7 special on their crispy Fish sandwiches. It wasn't fancy, but it was good.

Our previous tax preparer retired after filing income taxes for clients in 2025. It's difficult to evaluate the person doing your taxes until they do the work. We appreciated the new professional's approach and will probably stick with him.

We enjoyed the first week of the Winter Olympic Games from Italy. Skiers competing in the downhill go upwards of 70 miles per hour or more while athletes on the luge, skeleton, and bobsled are going as fast or more. I still don't understand how teams win or lose in curling, but the teams competing at that level are impressive.

Friday night, Wisconsin hosted number 10 Michigan State and won decisively, winning by 21 points. That's a nice stretch, winning two in a row over teams ranked above them in the B1G conference.

For the second week of February, we had a bunch of nice days to end the week and start the next. Friday was in the 40s and there's a possibility we could hit 60 on Monday.

Whatever the temperature is where you live, I hope you had a good week, thanks for reading!
