1. It's considered the oldest bridge in Ashtabula county built in 1867.
2. It's the longest single-span covered bridge in the county.
Because there are longer bridges, this is a good place to explain that single-span means the only supports holding up the bridge are the ones on either end of the bridge.
If there is a pier the bridge rests on between the two sides of the stream, then it's a two-span bridge. Two piers make it a three-span bridge.

A modern bridge was built during the time it was out of service and it's open to all types of vehicles. The bridges make up two-sides of an acute triangle.
After parking on the west side of the river to take pictures, I made the slow drive across the bridge then parked on the other side.
The large glass-free windows on each side of the bridge lets it breathe and provides a great view of the river if you're walking, and a handy way to check for traffic if you are driving.

Praise is due for the folks that led the fight to restore and reopen the Mechanicsville bridge. If they hadn't stepped in, it would be decaying before our eyes.
Instead, the bridge is open for business and providing a real covered bridge experience for locals and visitors alike.
