My Week that Was - November 15

Snow fell overnight Saturday. 11/9/25 dwm
Saturday was cool (highs in the 40s) and rainy. When the temperatures dropped at night, there were snow flakes.

The best news Saturday was that the Wisconsin Badgers won a football game, beating the Washington Huskies, ranked 23rd in the nation, 13 - 10 at Camp Randall.

It was their first B1G conference win of the season. It wasn't pretty, but it was great to see the gritty effort by the Badgers and nice to hear cheering in the stadium. Next week they play the number 2 team in the country, Indiana. That may not be pretty.

Snow was in the forecast Saturday and when it got cold enough, it fell across south Wisconsin but stayed intact on grass and cold surfaces.

I'm sure it happens more frequently than I recall, but it was especially pretty to see the contrast of autumn leaves and fresh snow.

Monday night into Tuesday there was light snow that did stick to the roads. As traffic increased during the morning commute, instead of wearing the snow down, it shined the snow into ice.

As I took the curve from county highway M to Junction Road the car didn't turn with it until I was within a couple feet of the curb.

I made it to work safe and sound, so it was a good reminder to take it slow in slippery conditions.

Tuesday was the first full day in our new office. I concentrated on work and waited to get everything into its place. Late Wednesday I started unpacking and deciding what to keep and what to discard.

Before heading home, I ran into a co-worker and a resident who sat up a table in the lobby with a sign proclaiming November 13 as International Green Day. I happened to be wearing a light green dress shirt and won my choice of prizes, I took a chocolate candy with carmel and sea salt. They also asked a survey question, which was about decision that changed our life.

The one that first came to mind was the decision to attend Drake University. At the time I didn't know what would fall into place because I became a Drake Bulldog, but among them, was receiving an internship to serve as a reporter-videographer covering the Iowa Legislature in 2023. That led to me being in the Iowa House of Representatives where a girl serving as a Page asked if I would go with her to the Page's Ball; less than two years later, we were married. That's life-changing.

Thursday was the last day of work this week. I spent most of the morning with an intern spending her senior year of college working and studying while serving at Oakwood and learning about the operation of a large senior community. Our meeting was an opportunity to introduce the intern to concepts of fundraising and developing relationships.

Friday was a day-off, the first one in five weeks! We didn't do anything special. We spent time shopping for a replacement mattress and I bought a new dress shirt at J.C. Penney to replace the shirt that was marked up by a Sharpie the week before while packing up the office. Otherwise it was a nice day to relax and catch up on things around the house.

I hope you're all caught up with things around your house. Thanks for reading!
