This post was updated after Sunday afternoon's victory over Cincinnati, 4 -2.
2025 is the seventh time in the last eight years, the Milwaukee Brewers qualified for Major League Baseball's postseason. The last three years, the Brewers won the National League Central Division over the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates, and St. Louis Cardinals.
Coming into each season, the Brewers are usually selected to finish with as many wins as losses, if they're lucky, and finish in the middle of the pack. Yet, year over year, the team's front office has put together a team in which the sum is definitely greater than individual parts.
This year, Milwaukee surprised the pundits again. After getting off to a slow start that saw the Cubs leap to a lead in the division, only to see Milwaukee engineer a run that not only got into contention for a playoff spot, they passed and then beat out Chicago for the division's top spot.
The team set a record for most wins in a season, with 96, and for just the second time won more games than any other team in the major leagues. A win last night or today will clinch home-field advantage through the World Series.

I joined my youngest son at the game Friday night. American Family Field was sold-out with fans eager to celebrate the team capturing the top spot and anticipating what dreams could be realized in October.
It didn't happen. Milwaukee took the lead after Christian Yelich doubled and was batted in by Brice Turang. Unfortunately, that was it as the Reds tied the game then added two runs for the final margin.
The Reds have their own dreams of making the play-offs. Their win Friday combined with a loss by the New York Mets put them in a tie for the third wild card spot with the Mets and the Reds own the tiebreaker.

(new Sunday pm) The Phillies did Milwaukee a favor and lost Saturday night, meaning the Crew earned home-field advantage in the post-season.
By defeating the Reds on Sunday, the Brewers set a new record for wins in a season, 97, breaking a three way tie with the 2011 and 2018 teams.
It's also nice to finish the season with a win. It's a tall order for the Crew because either team they'll face, Chicago or San Diego, in the Divisional round beat Milwaukee in the season series.
Whether it's Uecker Magic or it's just our time, there's nothing I'd like more (in our everyday world because certainly there are other things MUCH more important) than see the Milwaukee Brewers bring the World Series trophy to Wisconsin. Go Brewers!
