My Week that Was - Aug 23

You know the window opened Saturday and I rode right through it. (If you don't get the reference, here's the link.)

 

After the ride I settled in to watch the Packers play Indianapolis. The first half left a lot to be desired but the players in the second half battled as a team and as individuals trying to make the cut. 

 

Preseason wins mean next to nothing, but watching the effort on both sides, you could tell there were competitors out there.

 

Sunday night my fantasy league had its draft for the upcoming season. The most notable thing about my roster is I have four players with connections to either the Wisconsin Badgers or Green Bay Packers. We'll see it if it helps me in the standings.

 

Monday I got lunch at Jersey Mike's. I'm not 100% sure but I believe this was my first time in the store. I went with the mini-version of roast beef and provolone cheese with a small drink and chocolate chip cookie. It was good and filling but more than double what I usually pay for lunch. I'll have to save Jersey Mike's for special lunches. 

Wednesday morning instead of driving to work, I headed to Smart Toyota for my car's 115,000 service. I pulled into an open lane and a service technician came over to check me in. It turned out my appointment was a day earlier. That didn't make sense because I usually have more bags to take to the office the day after working on the east side, but I must have done something wrong.

 

A little later I got on their website to reschedule and realized the day and appointment time were not connected, so when I chose the time under August 20, it didn't take because the day was still set to Tuesday. Next Friday, I'm expecting a different outcome.

 I spent time Thursday getting rid of some of the things we don't need in the office. There was a box of toner for the printer, which we replaced two years ago, I contacted our tech support and they took it so someone else could use it. We have thank you gifts that haven't been given to donors in years, so I'm asking current donors if they are interested in one of them, and several were interested.

  

 Monday, on my way to work, a passing tractor-trailer either kicked up a stone or one fell off and caromed off the windshield creating a small chip.

 

 When we lived up north I sold insurance, driving three thousand miles each month on gravel roads. During those ten years I had so many chips and cracks repaired or replaced that my insurer (not the one I was working for) cancelled my policy because I had too many claims.

 

 Since leaving that job, I drive less and spend less time on gravel, so chips and cracks have happen less frequently. However, I know it's better to repair a chip than let it crack across the windshield and require a replacement. 

 

With that in mind, I stopped at a nearby Glass America store, where I received good service earlier this year. Unfortunately the technician was out for the rest of the day, so I'll return next week.

 

Good news for the Brewers after that five-game series with the Cubs, by winning two out of five, the Brewers prevented Chicago from picking up more than one game in the standings. The Cubs are 7 back, just 1 better than before the series. If, for some reason, the Cubs and Brewers end in a tie, the Cubs get the tie-breaker by winning the season series, 7 games to 6.

 

It's another big game for the Brewers as San Francisco comes to American Family Field for three games. Sunday will be memorable as the team honors Bob Uecker with a celebration of life before the game.
