Brewers Win!

Quinn Priester starts the game. 8/10/25 dwm
Coming into Sunday's game, the Milwaukee Brewers were riding their third 8-game winning streak this season.

Quinn Priester was on a personal streak of 10 straight wins, he's only the third Brewer pitcher to do that.

Milwaukee traded for him in the off-season, but at the time no fan was thinking this was a key acquisition. In the early part of the season, when most of preferred starters were on the injured list, he was a player to count on.

My son and I were surprised when he gave up two runs in the first to the New York Mets, then another in the second, third, and fourth innings. The gritty part was that he minimized the damage and gave his team a chance to win.

At the time, Priester's work didn't impress because we were trailing 5- 0 going into the bottom of the 4th.

That's when the Brewers got it going. Catcher William Contreras hit his 11th home run over the left field fence. Milwaukee gets two more runners on base, and when shortstop Joey Ortiz got a two-out single (below right) both men scored making it, 5 - 3, Mets.

Priester was replaced in the fifth by D.L. Hall, a long-man out of the bullpen, whose job was to keep it close. He did just that after allowing an inherited runner to score, he shut them down, getting the last two outs in the fifth, then mowing them down in the 6th, 7th, and 8th.

In the bottom of the 5th, Contreras comes to the plate, this time with Isaac Collins on base, and hits it to our part of the ballpark, section 106, except it traveled inside the foul pole, adding 2 runs and making it a 6 - 5 deficit.

The second home run turned up the volume and pressure on the Mets. Milwaukee put runners on in the 6th and 7th, but still trailed by one in the bottom of the 8th.

Joey Ortiz came to the plate, down 1, two on, and two outs, and punched a deflected single to right field, scoring Brice Turang from second to tie the game.

In the top of the 9th, the Brewers bring in Nick Mears to take care of business against the Mets, which had the top of its order coming up, including Juan Soto, the $800-million dollar player New York signed in the off-season. Mears retired the side.

The crowd is wild and in full-throat. Rookie left fielder, Isaac Collins led off against the Mets' closer, Edwin Diaz and worked the count to 2 balls - 2 strikes. He got the pitch he wanted and hit it over Juan Soto and the right field fence. It's Collins first walk-off home run and first HR at home. Brewers won, 7 - 6!

This is a fun-to-watch, exciting team that are playing for each other. There are 40-some games to play and I can't wait to see what this team will do next!

Come back Thursday for more nuggets from my first in-person Brewer game this year. Scroll down  to see the game-winning homer as photographed from the rightfield corner.
