Rain Day

It's rain day, a time to celebrate the natural watering of the earth.

Many cultures around the world have some celebration of rain. According to National Today dot com, a pharmacist in Pennsylvania, William Allison, felt that it always rained on July 29, so he declared it as the day to celebrate.

Allison kept records of whether it rained on Rain day, and his brother, Albert, continued the practice in the 1920s.

During the 1930s word about the community celebration got out to other communities.

The changing climate has led to more extremes, we experience more extremes with drier and wetter conditions. More warmth generates stronger storms which can do more harm as heavy rains can cause damaging floods.

2025 started with drought conditions in parts of Wisconsin but rain this month have, at least for the moment, there are no drought conditions in the state.

Irrigation can save crops during dry spells but if the rain shuts down long enough to cause a severe drought some of those irrigation units may run out of water unless its well runs deep.

We all depend on the rain. Sure, we don't like our games to be rained out or delayed by rain but it's those wonderful showers of much-needed nutrients that make our planet different than the rest.

July 29 is also special because it's Matthew's birthday, congratulations, Matt!
