My Week that Was - July 5

Saturday morning. 6/28/2025 dwm

Saturday morning was the coolest in Madison for more than a week.  My plan was to ride to Stoughton, eat breakfast, then return home.

After the ride, it was time to do laundry and write some blogs.

Sunday was nice with lunch at Texas Roadhouse. Madison's west-side store is nearly two years old and it's a welcome addition.

When we lived in Indianapolis, the closest Texas Roadhouse was across the street and we ate there frequently. It has good food at a reasonable price.

Monday was back to work and it started off good when I made the entire drive in without getting hit by a random auto part.

June gave way to July quickly. While August is known for its dog days, June has days that are so impatient, it's like encountering several little yap-yap dogs. That probably makes the appropriate analogy that days in July are like a golden retriever.

We ate dinner at the Grumpy Troll. 7/1/25 dwm
It's a couple of weeks before I need to have the next Foundation publication ready. As long as I can get it to the printer next week, it will be on schedule.

Local fireworks were shot off Wednesday evening. I'm not sure why Wednesday, July 2 was picked for the show. July 3, 4, and even 5 make more sense given the timing around the holiday and weekend. While we heard about it in advance, it seemed out of place when there is work the next day.

You can't go wrong eating in Mt. Horeb at the Grumpy Troll. It's one of our favorite places where you can count on good food whether it's pizza, a burger, or something else.

Thursday was the final day of the work week with a Friday holiday behind it. I was able to get the newsletter laid out and get some other things set up for next week before the day ended.

Breakfast at Sonny's. 7/4/25 dwm
Early Friday I heard rolls of thunder around 3 and a little while later, it started to rain. It was still raining at 5, which cancelled my ride, I hope to get out Saturday.

It's nice going to the gym on holidays and the weekend when it's less crowded and I'm not on a schedule.

After the gym, we drove to nearby Oregon where we ate at Sonny's Kitchen. Later we went to the movies with the kids where we saw the latest Jurassic Park film.

The family enjoyed it. I'd give it a C, but I've never been a big fan of the franchise. I won't give anything away but if you've seen one of them, you probably have a good idea.

We finished the week watching A Capitol Fourth on PBS live from the United States' capitol. It's a nice mix of artists and music mixing patriotic hymns and pop favorites leading into the final 20-minutes when the orchestra plays the 1812 Overture while the Washington D.C. fireworks are fired. We try not to miss it.

Thanks for reading, enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend!
