My Week that Was - July 26

Along the Capital City trail. 7/19/25 dwm
Saturday was wet, hot, and humid. But it dried enough to ride.

The highlight of the weekend was watching the Milwaukee Brewers sweep the Dodgers in Las Angeles to extend their win streak to 10.

A new Fit Bit arrived in the mail. The one ordered during the Prime Days 'sale,' worked for half-a-morning before it shut down.

It had been acting funny when I was setting it up with the screen seemingly making changes on its own. This time I'm leaving it to charge 24 hours before trying to get it programmed and talking to my phone.

Pizza parties were back on the agenda, this time for residents of Oakwood's west campus. I thought everything was set until I learned the pizza place that delivered the past two years had closed three months earlier. I tried my second choice, driving to the store to place the order for the next day when I learned due to being short-handed, they wouldn't open until 1, after the party.

That left me with one option. This store could do it, but their system didn't allow for orders placed the night before the scheduled delivery. Thankfully this store opens at 10:30, giving me an hour to arrange and pay for the pizzas and the store to deliver on time.

Losing a lens. 7/23/2025 dwm
Wednesday morning I followed the usual routine in getting for work. The drive to work was the same. The stop at Kwik Trip was uneventful.

It was more than an hour later, while talking with a colleague that I noticed my vision was fuzzy. I went to the bathroom to take out the left contact and couldn't find it.

I thought I could get through the day with one lens, but it would probably give me a headache. I grabbed the keys to drive home, then stopped as I realized the optometrist's office was across the street. I called ahead to tell them what happened and when I arrived, a new lens was waiting.

When I popped it in, I saw things so clearly I couldn't believe I didn't notice the missing lens sooner. Happy to see normally again, I still wondered how I managed to forget putting a lens in, joking that it was the first time since I started wearing contacts 40 years ago. I didn't figure out what probably happened until returning home when I found a dried up lens stuck to my chest.

Domino's pizza delivered the goods on time and the goods were well-received by the guests who asked lots of questions.

Friday was a full day of riding, more on that in tomorrow's post. Thanks for reading - and come back soon!
