It's a Bird, It's a Plane...

Every June 12 is Superman Day a celebration of the comic book hero and his 90 years of fighting for "truth, justice, and the American Way."

That slogan may have belonged to an earlier generation of Superman, where today's inter-galactic hero is a tad more nuanced.

This day started in 2013 in conjunction with the release of the movie, Man of Steel.

While I read few comic books these days, I enjoy a good super-hero movie with a bigger than life character, whether it's a member of the Marvel Universe or part of DC Comic stable of heroes.

This year's Superman Day celebration comes less than a month before the next Superman film comes out.

In today's world, I'm interested in movies where 'good guys' prevail, and that's remained part of Superman's Kryptonian DNA. Superman is a beacon of hope for the people of earth - unfailingly kind and willing to help humans - which makes him an example of benevolence, selflessness, and courage.

For a Thursday in June, benevolence, selflessness, and courage is tough to pull off, unless you happen to be Superman. Up, up, and away!
