Ride 6 - Windy

Turn-around point where pavement ends on Badger. 5/17/25
The weather changed after a storm front moved through the area Thursday evening but the wind kept blowing, it was gusty Friday, and still breezy Saturday.

It also cooled down after the storm falling from highs in the 80s Thursday to the 50s on Saturday, when it was expected to be cloudy much of the day.

I waited for things to warm-up before heading out, so after inflating the tires on the bike and getting my stuff together I was on the road by 10:30.

Taking the wind into account, I chose paths lined with trees and bushes that would (hopefully) provide a wind break.

From home I headed down the Ice Age Trail to the Military Ridge Trail where I hopped on the Badger State Trail, taking it south to Purcell Road where its pavement ends. It was just over 6 miles to the Badger, then a smidge over 6 to the turn-around and another 6 coming back. From there I followed the Southwest Commuter trail and the paths that followed until I joined the Capital City State Trail. I stayed with it until I was ten miles from the Badger. I turned around at Lake Farm County Park. From there the direct route home was 16 miles.

The surprise of the ride was that while the breeze was constant, I was managing to maintain a good pace.

My first two hours averaged just a tick under 17-miles-per-hour! I didn't avoid the wind but there weren't many stretches going into a head wind until the last hour, which slowed my pace, making my average speed 16.3.
