We hadn't been to the airport for breakfast in quite a while, so we put an end to that streak Saturday with a return trip to Pat O'Malley's Jet Room.
The restaurant is in the General Aviation building on the side opposite where commercial flights arrive and depart.
It's popular, we waited twenty minutes for a table but it 'flew by' since we had something to look as planes were taking off and landing. Our table was next to a large window where we watched a private jet advance through its preparation to take a family on a trip.
A small airplane (above right) took its place after it landed. It's part of the Civil Air Patrol, an auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force that works with students. We watched a technician fill the plane's gas tanks on the wings. You can't see that at most restaurants!

Monday was Memorial Day, which meant I had an extra day to ride. This time I headed to Waunakee, going north from Verona through Middleton, then riding county highway M to the Mendota trail, which I followed into the busy community.
I was trying to add miles, so I explored Waunakee's business park before finding Division Street which put me back on the main street. Kwik Trip has a shop at the east end of town. It was one of three where I did some 'carbo-loading' for the rest of the trip. The 8th ride of the year covered 50 miles in 3 hours, 17 minutes.
This ride went past several fields coming alive with crops popping out of the ground. The corn will look different next month when it will be taller than most knees; on Monday most of the corn I saw was just a couple inches tall.
A field of spring barley looked good (photo below left). According to information on a University of Wisconsin website, spring barley is planted in late summer, then can survive the killing frost, growing again after the spring thaw. It's primarily used to feed animals.
The strange thing about returning to work on Tuesday is that after a day the weekend is close at hand. I had three visits Tuesday and Wednesday, which was a nice way to start the week.

At this point, the Brewers hadn't swept a series all year. After beating Boston Memorial Day, they won on the final plays of the games Tuesday and Wednesday.
After winning four straight, they play the Phillies in Philadelphia before three in Cincinnati, then they return to American Family Field for a 10-game home stand.
This week opened rickshaw season at Oakwood. It was relatively cool which meant only a few people were interested in a ride around campus. One thing that got their interest, a pair of sand hill cranes caring for two eggs. During my time at Oakwood, it's the first time we've seen nesting cranes.
Thursday while driving home from work something unusual happened, I had green lights at three straight intersections. It's more likely I get stopped at all three instead of sailing through. It may be years before that happens again.
It was a busy week. After working Friday for the first time in four weeks, I'm ready for the weekend. I need the rest because next week I'm working Monday through Friday!
Thanks for reading!
