My Week that Was - May 10

I headed to Sport Clips early last Saturday to secure a spot 'in line,' before the shop opened. It turned out to be a good idea. When I arrived, there was already one guy parked by the front door, but second-in-line is OK. When a third car pulled up, a dad with his young son, and they got out of their car, I got out of mine as did the first arrival.

At this point there was still ten minutes before the door opened. I said to the guy who was there before me that he was first in line, trying to clarify I was second. While we waited we had a friendly guy-conversation about the Brewers, the Packers, and the NFL draft. I noticed the dad was wearing a sweatshirt for a business I work with as a fundraiser and asked him about it. It turned out he was familiar with our recent project that was being celebrated with a dedication May 5.

When the door opened, I was the second to sign in and took a seat. When I looked back to the door, I was thankful for getting there early because there were six more people behind the father and son! That twenty minutes early saved what might have been an hour or more of waiting!

American White pelicans. 5/4/25 dwm
Sunday's ride is worth noting for the birds I saw along the ride. If you didn't read it, here is the link.

There was an osprey flying from its nest atop a power pole near the Madison water treatment plant. Closer to Verona there was a squadron of American White pelicans gathered on or near water on several ponds.

Some of the birds were in a section that was close enough to shore I could get good pictures.

Monday was the ribbon cutting for the new agility park. I wasn't sure how many people would make it, I was hoping for 75 to 100 and was happy to see 80 attended.

The new park offers an outdoor venue for people recovering from surgery to return to regular life by getting back in shape in a real-world setting.

Tuesday was my final pizza party for the year on Oakwood's east campus. There are a couple on the west side later this year, but on the west campus we invite new residents and floor leaders.

I enjoy the parties and plan to continue them because  they are valuable, but like any project that stretches over a few months, it's nice to bring it to a close.

Friday morning was my 140th blood donation, half-way to my next gallon. The experience went according to plan and I was home 35-minutes later, feeling good.

Last night we watched Nonnas on Netflix, it's the story of a man honoring his mom and grandmother by setting up a restaurant with family recipes cooked by Nonnas, or grandmas. The movie is based on a true story. Last week we saw a story about it on CBS Sunday Morning. you can find it on YouTube. It's a good movie and will give you the warm fuzzies.

I hope you're week has been as nice as mine, and blessings on your next seven days!
