First, I get everything out of the garage so it can be swept. There is a lot of sand and road grime tracked into the garage over the winter; removing it is a good start.
As things are moved, there are opportunities to set aside things that are obviously broken or that can be recycled. It didn't take long for a small pile of things we've not used in the last two or three years pile up.
Over the winter there is a corner of the garage that becomes the place where the stuff we won't need or can't use until spring can spend the winter.
The areas I miss and which makes this a 'tidying up' instead of a cleaning, are the corners where walls meet the ceiling. That's where cobwebs can be found. I knew better than to use the broom, but it wasn't until a moment ago I knew what to do.

It feels good to get the garage ready for spring and summer. I pumped up the tires on my bike, so I can it can be go to the shop for a tune-up.
Stuff that can be thrown or given away are removed and taken to St. Vincent de Paul's Thrift Shop, creating more space on the long shelf for pots and garden supplies. At the shelf's far end I keep bike my accessories.
In a week or two, the garage will gain more room when the outdoor tables return to the deck alongside the chairs that winter in the basement.
Which reminds me, next on my to do list is helping sort and tidy things up in the down there. Too bad the time to clean the basement cleanup season doesn't have it's own season!
