Sunrise at Sonny's

We had walked into 101 South Main Street in Oregon before, when it was the Holstein Kitchen. It changed hands a couple years later, opening as Sonny's Kitchen in 2019, then survived Covid.

If you've driven through downtown Oregon, you probably saw the building on the southwest corner of the intersection. In addition to a prominent location on the corner, it is blessed with two windows that provide natural light to the wood-lined dining room.

The diner has a menu with options, even for breakfast. The senior breakfast I chose was French toast with a choice of fruit juice. 

The French toast had the proper thickness and body to stand up to the batter it was dipped in before hitting the griddle. For my juice, I asked for a mix of apple and cranberry, my favorite.

 Our server was pleasant and efficient and the food was good. The restaurant is comfortable and is an easy place for a conversation. Although the place was half-full the ambience still felt like early morning even though it was nearly 9 am.

 Their lunch menu looks inviting; good enough we'll have to make another stop sometime soon.

 Sonny's is open seven days a week from 7 am to 2 pm; it re-opens for dinner service Friday evenings from 4 to 8.
