Election Day

In Wisconsin the election Tuesday focused on the race for Supreme Court Justice.

It's considered the most expensive race in Wisconsin history; at the end of election night Susan Crawford was the winner by more than 180,000 votes.

At the national level it was seen as a showdown between the candidate preferred by the President and his opponent favored by the other party.

There was one nasty ad after another, one candidate described as too extreme while the other too radical.

It's a terrible way to conduct an election. There were hard-hitting ads against each candidate criticizing sentencing decisions in criminal cases for being too soft. Individually, it's an area where people can disagree, but for Supreme Court justices the issue is practically irrelevant because the high court rarely deal with criminal cases.

With the bitter campaign over, it was notable that Brad Schimel in his concession speech didn't go down the road of the President who endorsed him by claiming the election was rigged. He accepted defeat and congratulated the winner.

This time voters chose a candidate they believe will decide cases the way they want. That may or may not be the case, and thankfully there won't be another decision about the court until 2026.

That's right, you can expect the campaign ads to start any day now!
