Put a Stamp on It

A new set of stamps. 2/26.25 dwm
June 15th will mark 10 years since mom died. I think about her and dad several times each week.

One item that reminds me of mom are stamps. She had a wax paper bag from the United States Postal Service with a variety of stamps that I 'inherited' when she passed.

What I have left now are a half-dozen US air mail stamps at .75 cents a piece, almost two dozen .17 cent stamps, and a bunch of .28 cent stamps.

In an age of forever stamps, I've held on to them and waiting for a time to use them.  I had a plan but couldn't do it until last week when I went to the Post Office.

Four 17-cent stamps is .68 cents, 5 cents short of the .73 needed to mail something first class, so I bought 4 5-cent stamps.

(4 x .17) + .05 = .73 postage 3/1/25 dwm
Two 28-cent stamps is .56 cents, 23 cents short of .73. There isn't a 23-cent stamp, so I got two 10-cent
stamps and a 4-center.

That left single 17 and 28 cent stamps which needed 45 and 56 cents to send a first class letter. A forty-cent stamp was available and so was a 56-cent postage.

Well, it wasn't algebra, but it was a good little mental work-out to figure a way to use up mom's treasure trove of postage stamps.

I think she'd get a smile out of it!
