My Week that Was - March 8

My usual at Prairie Cafe. 3/1/25 dwm

Saturday morning we started early at the Prairie Cafe for breakfast, and since my favorite server was behind the counter, I got a chocolate-banana smoothie to start the day. Yum!

We both had things to keep us busy so we went our separate ways for the rest of the morning. I finally got my car washed after missing opportunities over the last two weeks. I also picked up an 18-pack of protein shakes and a 50-pound bag of water softener salt.

This particular bag of salt didn't have a handle and it was 10 pounds heavier than the salt I usually purchase. I guess the trips to the gym are paying off, it wasn't too bad carrying the bag, I was more worried that it might break and spill all 50 pounds of salt.

We didn't pay attention to the Oscars Sunday night; the movie chosen as Best Picture I hadn't heard of until the day before the awards program. I guess that makes me a tad out of touch on such things.

Snow falling. 3/5/2025 dwm
The forecast included a storm blowing into Wisconsin Tuesday then blowing out Wednesday with snow left in its wake. Areas north of Madison were expected to see more snow, but you never know what kind of punch a March storm can land.

Wednesday's snow was gone Thursday afternoon unless the snow was shaded from the sun. Another snow was forecast on Friday but it didn't even last on the grass.

The week after giving blood is usually a bit up-and-down in terms of my workouts. The day after giving, I ran three miles, Sunday was a walking day but Monday, I just ran a mile. The day after I made it three miles and the cycle repeated the next two days.

Thursday was the last day of my work week. It was busy. We worked on an upcoming event, attended a memorial service, attended a virtual meeting, and a donor visit.

Friday was a timely day off. I slept nearly an hour more than my usual wake-up time. After the work-out, a 'down' day by the way, we drove to Kwik Trip to grab something to start the day. Later, we ran errands before going to see the latest Captain America move, Brave New World.

Poster at theater. 3/7/25 dwm
This Captain America is the second-to-last in phase 5 of what will soon be six phases of 39 Marvel movies stretching from 2008 to 2027, and counting.

The Avengers were broken up after the Endgame movie, leaving individual superheroes to save the day for the people around them.

In this film, some of the fall-out from Endgame is still in the air. One of the bad guys has the formula to turn someone into Hulk while adding an ingredient of mind-control to manipulate a possible Hulk and an army.

I don't recall where, or if, Thaddeus Ross was a player in any earlier movie, but the former general and newly elected President of the United States, capably played by Harrison Ford, is struggling to control his temper and a sensitive international incident that threatens war between the USA and Japan.

Captain America and the President haven't seen eye to eye on past issues, but attempt to work together.

There are lots of cool fights and chase scenes but it's primary objective is serving as a bridge to the next movie, Avengers Doomsday at a theater near you in 2026.

It was a good week; here's hoping you enjoy your second week of March!
