It's in downtown Mt. Horeb inside a
century-old building constructed next to railroad tracks in 1912. It was
home to Reilly Brothers Farm Implement store.
The interior walls show the original brick and it has an impressive wood floor sanded and polished for the building's second life.
Buck & Honey's is named in honor of Buck and Honey Birkinbine who farmed outside Sun Prairie. Their farm is the site of the original Buck & Honey's bar and grill.
It was the first one I visited and became a place we used over the years when we took donors out to lunch. It was a nice place with a friendly atmosphere.
The second location is on Broadway in Monona, just off the beltline. It has a dramatic display behind the bar showing a forest of birch trees with snow on the ground.
The third opened in Waunakee, in a new building, we ate there once, when we joined a packed Friday night crowd.
I don't know why it took so long for us to get to the latest restaurant, but it was worth the wait. We started with Sassy Curds, which were excellent.

We were there before noon Sunday getting ahead of the crowd. Our server was prompt, courteous, and friendly, attentive, but not smothering.
The location and building work to create a relaxing and friendly environment.
Self-described as an upscale, casual place, the prices are more wallet-friendly for lunch than dinner. It is on my list of places for an extra-special occasion.
