My Week that Was - February 8

A gloomy day. 2/3/25 dwm
A week after our 40th anniversary open house, it was nice starting the week with nothing on the calendar for Saturday and Sunday.

I'd been aware of a 'small' movie debuting at the end of January but lost track of it until it's opening night January 31. We weren't able to see it that night, but bought tickets for an early show February 1. Green and Gold is a wonderful story about a farm family doing the best they can to survive in the 1990s that weaves in their status as fans of the Green Bay Packers.

By now, it may be hard to find at theaters depending on ticket sales, if you haven't seen it, I recommend it. See my review here.

Other than the movie, it was nice hanging out at home with not much to do other than a few loads of laundry.

We finished watching the Apple+ series, Shrinking, Sunday afternoon. It's a two-season series with 22 total episodes focused on three psychiatrists and their lives in and out of the actual practice. It's an interesting show with good actors and stories. There is strong language in the show but otherwise a high-quality series.

Most of Sunday and all of Monday was wet and gloomy. It was a busy day in the office - I spent time reviewing the articles for our winter newsletter and passed them along to a colleague for further review.

Tuesday I received a box of Valentine cards to sign and get ready for distribution and put on the second pizza party of the year. This week's party went very well in that several residents hung around after with more questions they wanted to ask - that's a wonderful development.

Art Show. 2/5/2025

There was an art show on Oakwood's West campus Wednesday. A resident I know well was showing a couple dozen paintings done by her husband.

It was nice to see a crowd looking at paintings of forests, lakes, and favorite places around Wisconsin. I was glad to attend.

For a couple days, forecasters were expecting sleet and freezing rain to start falling around Madison by mid-afternoon. It was still in the forecast after sunset.

There was a thin layer of ice on the plastic sheet I put over the windshield and a hard-to-scrape layer on the passenger windows. There was a slippery spot on the closest corner, but otherwise I didn't have any trouble getting to the gym or to work. By mid-morning all traces of the ice were gone.

While the ice wasn't much, it was enough to get trucks out early in the morning laying down salt so folks could make it around town safely. The noise woke me for a while, then I nodded off. When I woke I was 30 minutes behind my usual schedule, it didn't keep me from going to the gym but I only had time for two miles instead of the usual three mile run.

The week ended with several meetings and wrapping up two projects. I met a long-time friend and former colleague for lunch. It had been a while since we last talked in person, so there was a lot catching up to do. After we caught up, we agreed to put the next lunch on the calendar so there isn't as much catching up to do.

It was a productive week. That's a good thing because the coming week is going to be a little different. Thanks for reading, have a great week.
