My Week that Was - January 18

Eagles gather along the river. 1/11/25 dwm
The week started with breakfast in Sauk Prairie before watching bald eagles along the Wisconsin River. It was our first extended trip in a 'new to us' car.

It's a 2022 Subaru Outback. There are a lot of gizmos and gadgets. There are lights to warn you when a car is in your blind spot or to warn that you are in danger of leaving your lane. It's a cool car that will serve us well.

I already wrote about the end of the Packer season that posted Tuesday.

The NFL Wildcard weekend had only one close game between Tampa and Washington. One redeeming feature of the first post-season weekend was seeing Minnesota lose to the Rams Monday night. It reminded me of a t-shirt they used to sell in the Packer Pro Shop, "I cheer for the Packers and whoever is playing the Minnesota Vikings."

Monday was busy, it's highlight was making a short presentation at the Prairie Ridge Resident Association meeting. I thanked the residents for their support in 2024 and shared where some of their gifts will make a difference in 2025.

As the weather got cold earlier this week, the temperatures in the loft area of the Anytime Fitness got warm. Tuesday it was close to 80. Thankfully it was closer to normal Wednesday morning making it easier to breathe and run.

A big job was filling the calendar. Eleven pizza parties are scheduled, the first one is the last week of January, the last one is May 6. Donor recognition events are also booked with two receptions in April; two dinners in June; and two cookouts in September.

Bob Uecker, Mr. Baseball and the voice of the Milwaukee Brewers, died at 90 after a long fight with cancer. I'll write more about Ueck tomorrow. Born and bred in Milwaukee, Uecker played Major League Baseball for the Milwaukee Braves and started broadcasting for the Brew Crew in 1971. I was seven for most of that season and can't say for sure which season it was when I recognized Bob Uecker's voice as the sound of baseball.

He called Brewer games for more than 50 years. He was an icon. I never met Mr. Uecker, but felt like I knew him. By the tone in his voice you knew if the Brewers were winning or losing before he mentioned the score. So long, Ueck, you will be missed!

Friday morning I met a young woman getting into fundraising at a retirement community a few hours away. Her boss is a former co-worker of mine who became a leader at the same community and asked if I would help.

The few times I've been asked, it's been an honor to work with someone new to the profession and try to help them get comfortable. Based on our time together, I believe she will do well.

There was good news this week on the Newhart front. The series was given another week before leaving Amazon Prime. We picked a few episodes to hop-scotch through seasons 6 and 7 then settled in for the finish starting with series 7, episode 12 Cupcake on My Back. By Friday night, we had 10 episodes to go.

That was my week. I hope yours went well. Thanks for reading!
