Hello, 2025!

 It's 2025, in 365 days we'll be twenty-five percent done with the 21st century.

Looking back fifty years, this is when we expected to be riding in flying cars and starting to colonize the moon. We are a long way from reaching either of those goals, if they are still things we want to achieve.

We've gotten here one day at a time, one month at a time, and one year at a time. It adds up, then one day you wake up and realize you are older than you ever imagined was possible.

2024 is in the rear-view mirror now, another year separating us from the Covid-19 pandemic. We may not be normal like we may have acted in 2019, but life as we know it is our new normal. It's normal to see people on the street or at work wearing masks as a precaution so they don't get sick or don't spread something they have to someone else.

I didn't make any resolutions in 2024 and remarkably managed not to break any of them. The resolution I made in 2023 was to read at least five books. I expect to do at least that again this year.

I don't resolve to exercise because it's a daily habit. The only days I didn't do some kind of workout was the week I was laid up with a kidney stone.

Changing a number on a calendar isn't dramatic but it can be therapeutic. The idea of a fresh start, whether it's for a year, a week, or a day. A clean slate is a powerful image - what you did in 2024 doesn't matter, it's a new day and a new year. Happy New Year!
