My Week that Was - October 19

The morning after we returned home from vacation, I got up early for the 36th ride of the year. There was an early Badger football game that I wanted to watch, so I left an hour before sun-up to get a good start.

This trip was all about the miles as I track down my goal. This trip added 50 miles to the total, leaving 98 to go. October 12 was a nice day, 50 at the start and in the upper 50s when I returned home around 9:30.

There are plenty of sandhill cranes around Madison. I saw two dozen in a harvested field of corn picking up kernels left behind.

Saturday afternoon, the Wisconsin Badgers played their best game of the season so far with a dominant win over Rutgers. It was nice to see them playing better in all three phases, offense, defense, and special teams.

The Packers had the same sort of game Sunday when the Arizona Cardinals came to Green Bay. The defense continues to force turnovers; on offense, quarterback Jordan Love looks to be fully healthy again, he tied Brett Favre with a second straight game throwing four touchdown passes.

It's all about the next game for both teams, Wisconsin travels to Northwestern today while a tough Houston Texans team comes to Lambeau Field.

The first day at work after a week-off can be tough. There are dozens of unread email that need attention and in that mix are at least a few that require time and effort before sending a reply. Thankfully I didn't have a ton of email, and the things brought to my attention were quickly resolved.

Three weeks in for the Agility Park. 10/15/24 dwm
Fall made its presence felt Tuesday evening as south Wisconsin had frost in the forecast and a hard freeze predicted for Wednesday night. We haven't had a 'second summer' yet, but once a taste of winter arrives, that's when we can look for a dessert-like helping of summer before the season really changes.

Work is progressing on the Agility Park at Oakwood. I'm taking pictures weekly for a 'time-lapse' style Power Point presentation at next spring's dedication. The work should be finished by the end of November.

Thursday morning was spent on the phone, thanking donors for gifts and making appointments with new residents.

That evening there was a dinner to attend. It's the first time I was able to take part, it's to honor and thank volunteers who serve on the various boards of directors who set the policies and decisions on the direction of the organization. The meal at Steenbock's on Orchard on the University of Wisconsin campus was excellent.

This seemed like a long week. It could be that it's the first work week after vacation and that I worked all five days. On the bright side, it was a second week of abundant gifts arriving in the mail, for that I'm thankful.

While the vacation was great, it's nice to be back to work.

I hope you find joy at your job, make it a great week!
