My Week that Was - September 28

Oakwood from the south. 9/26/2024 dwm
The weekend was busier than most. It started Saturday with a 61-mile ride around a lake and a trek across the lower third of the county.

After the ride and cleaning up, we enjoyed a filling lunch at Texas Roadhouse, then ran into Costco for a case of a chocolate protein shake. Sunday morning I visited a nearby church to speak before worship about Oakwood Village and how individuals and the churches make an impact on a 76-year-old institution.

After the presentation it was time to go home and getting ready for the Packer game. It was their second straight without starting quarterback Jordan Love but it didn't matter to the Packer defense, which throttled the Tennessee Titans offense, or the Green Bay offense which showed a different side of backup QB Mailik Willis, who had another winning performance. The Packers are now 2 - 1, heading home where it seems likely that Jordan Love will be back on the field.

Monday we had a ground-breaking ceremony for an agility park - which uses different surfaces in a variety of 'real" situations outside. The actual work begins next week.

Just two days later, I had the last pizza party of the year. There were eleven on Oakwood's east campus and two on the west campus. I've been doing parties on the east side for a number of years while they are in year two on the west side. The parties are similar in providing a non-intimidating environment to share and answer questions. The parties resume in 2025.

I started online classes through our information technology partner. One is divided into twelve short chapters and its hosted by an actor portraying a lumberjack. I'm not sure how a lumberjack is going to keep me safe from phishing, malware, and ransomware.

Last chance for a rickshaw ride is Thursday. We've been on the bike every time it's been scheduled this year, a huge improvement over 2023 when we missed half of the schedule due to rain or excessive heat. I had help this year from a volunteer, which meant we could give double the rides of usual. I was the only rickshaw pilot for the last day and it was busy, giving eight or nine rides.

You wouldn't believe my surprise an hour later when a bill I was expecting was significantly less than I imagined. Thursday morning I dropped our car off to get the oil changed and tires rotated. I forgot that since we bought the car from the dealer doing the work that the oil change was complimentary, leaving a bill  of $33.

Friday was busy. We had another 'check-in' virtual meeting on the move to new database software. We're in the heaviest part of the process, going through potential duplicate records one at a time. There were 1,200 pieces to review at the start, after a week, we're down to 750.

Brewers are locked into the 3-seed in the National League post-season and will host a game on Tuesday. They may not know who they will play until Sunday's games are finished.

September is nearly over - I hope you're ready for October - thanks for reading!
